2-month Ban for Referee Who Gave “Dubious Penalty” to African Champions Esperance

A referee is set to sidelined from officiating games in the Tunisian domestic league for two months after being found guilty of giving defending African Cup holders Esperance du Tunis a dubious-looking penalty.

A referee is set to sidelined from officiating games in the Tunisian domestic league for two months after being found guilty of giving defending African Cup holders Esperance du Tunis a dubious-looking penalty.

The move to impose the sanctions on arbiter Yousri Bouali and assistant Elyes Brahem followed a review of the game in question between Esperance du Tunis and US Tataouine by a select committee of referees.

Yousri gave out what the central referee body called a “dubious” spot-kick to Esperance who converted it to score the only goal of the game.

Esperance top the Tunisia league standings having garnered 33 points in fourteen appearances losing only once.

They are three points ahead of second-placed CS Sfaxien who drew one-all with Bizertin on Friday.
