2022 U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers: South Africa, Egypt Progress to Next Round

The first round of the 2022 African U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament is scheduled for this weekend with 24 teams facing off for the next round of the qualifying tournament.

South Africa and Egypt, two of the 24 teams, will be out of action this weekend, taking a bye to the next round of the qualifiers.

South Africa, who was paired against Kenya, moved to the next round following the suspension of Kenya by FIFA.

FIFA last week banned both Kenya and Zimbabwe due to interference from the two countries’ respective governments.

South Africa will now await the winners from the match between Uganda and Ethiopia.

Egypt on the other hand also progressed to the next round after the withdrawal of Guinea Bissau. Egypt will face the aggregate winners between Nigeria and DR Congo.

This year’s edition is the 8th Qualifying Tournament. The biennial international youth football competition is organized by the CAF to determine which women’s under-17 national teams from Africa qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Three teams will qualify from this tournament for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India as the CAF representatives
