The Laureus awards are back and there are some Africans and second–generation Africans that have made the nomination list. Laureus Sports prides itself in changing the lives of disadvantaged children through sport and celebrating the achievements of the World’s greatest People. For the 2018 awards, the following Africans and Second-generation Africans have been nominated in different categories.
Sportswoman of the Year:
South African athlete and 800m world champion Caster Semenya has made the cut alongside Tennis heavyweights like Serena Williams and Garbiñe Muguruza as well as swimming sensation, Katie Ledecky.
World Breakthrough of the Year:
Teen sensation and PSG forward Kylian Mbappe has made the list after a stellar breakthrough season at Monaco alongside NBA basketball player, Giannis Antetokounmpo and WBA, IBO, and IBF heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua.
Voting is still on-going and the awards will take place in Monaco on the 27th, February 2018.
