South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the immediate termination of the contract on mutual consent of Namibian goalkeeper Virgil Vries.

South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the immediate termination of the contract on mutual consent of Namibian goalkeeper Virgil Vries.

The two parties ended a ten months relationship that begun in June 2018 on Tuesday after Vries failed to meet expectations of his coaches following a string of costly errors earlier in the season.

A statement from the club said: “Kaizer Chiefs continued with the process of closing off the season with an announcement of goalkeeper Virgil Vries leaving the club.”

“The club confirmed that negotiations with the Namibian goal minder were concluded on Tuesday afternoon. Virgil Vries joined Chiefs on 1 July 2018 and with immediate effect (30 April) entered into a mutual termination and release agreement.”

The 29-year-old custodian played only five league games and conceded six goals in his short stay with Naturena side.

He becomes the fourth player to leave Chiefs in a space of a week after the departures of Pule Ekstein‚ Gustavo Paez and Kgotso Malepe.

Chiefs are currently placed seventh place on the Premier Soccer League standings and look set to go another season without a league title but are in line to claim a Nedbank Cup crown when they compete in the final against NFD side TS Galaxy at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 18 May.
