In Form Kasumba Eyeing AFCON Slot

Sofapaka’s Ugandan striker Umaru Kasumba is eyeing a call-up to the national team, the Cranes, ahead of June African Cup of Nations that will be staged in Egypt.

Sofapaka’s Ugandan striker Umaru Kasumba is eyeing a call-up to the national team, the Cranes, ahead of June African Cup of Nations that will be staged in Egypt.

The speedy forward has been in fine form for Batoto Ba Mungu in the Kenyan Premier League this season and is currently the joint top scorer in the league with 15 goals. Kakamega Homeboyz’ Allan Wanga and Ulinzi Stars’ Enosh Ochieng have a similar number of goals.

The attacker has never featured for Uganda national senior team and says given a chance, he will do his best banking on his current fine form.

“I am ready and I think if given a chance, I will prove what I can do. I have proved it on the pitch this season and I have seven more games to prove more. Every player wants to represent his country and it is my personal dream to play for the Cranes,” he told the club website.

With seven games to go, Kasumba says he wants to score five more goals to take his tally for the season to 20 and bag the golden boot.

“I think I am really happy with how I have progressed this season. Bearing in mind I didn’t start the first five games due to injury I think I have done well. My target this season from the start was 20 goals and I believe I will get that target,” he added.

Kasumba has scored 38 league goals since he joined Sofapaka in June 2017.
