South Africa international Percy Tau was on Monday named the Proximus League, Belgium’s second tier player of the year.

Tau, who joined Royale Union Saint-Gilloise at the start of the season from English side Brighton and Holve Albion was in fine form in Belgium and has now been awarded.

The 24-year old attacker who left Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018 won the award after garnering 228 votes. Nikola Storm was second with 89 votes while and Faïz Selemani came in third with 84.

Tau took the Belgium second division by storm scoring 11 goals and setting up 13 others and has reportedly attracted interest from Belgium Pro League teams.

“I’d like to say thank you to everyone who voted for me. A big thank you to @UnionStGilloise players and staff for the achievement, I share with y’all. To the supporters, thank you for warm welcome to the Club,” he tweeted.

Tau is expected to return to his parent club, Brighton and Hove Albion once his loan spell expires at the end of the season.
