Senegal will win this year’s Africa Cup of Nations if a recent poll is anything to go by.

Being held in Egypt with the opening fixture kicking off yesterday evening, the Taranga Lions are tipped as potential champions, according to a study conducted by sports site Maxifoot.

Up to 20.8 per cent of the site’s readers totalling 30,374 voted backed the West Africans and the 2002 finalists to emerge winners, citing its calibre of players including the likes of Sadio Mane, Keita Balde and defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Hosts Egypt collected 18.3% of the votes, Algeria were rated at 13.5%, Cote d’voire 11.1% with Morocco in fifth spot (9.1%) and Cameroon sixth (7.1%).

DR Congo, Tunisia, Nigeria, Mali and Ghana all scored low grades in the polls.
