Comoros have recorded one of their biggest wins by beating Guinea 1-0, in an international friendly at Municipal Stadium in Versailles, France on Saturday night.

As was expected, the Syli Nationale started off the better side but their play ended in many offsides inside the first 15 minutes.

In the fourth minute, Florentin Pogba put Francois Kamano through with a neat pass and the latter finding the back of the net but his goal didn’t count as he was adjudged to have scored from an offside position.

Buoyed by this start, the Guineans made Coelacanths chase the shadows early on.

In the 18th minute, Ali Ahamada made a great save after dashing off his line to save at Lass Bangoura’s feet after a great through ball from Mohamed Yattara.

Not to be outdone, Amir Abdou’s men took the game to the Guineans and a minute after Syli Nationale’s attack, Nordine Ibouroi and Said Bakari combined resulting in Bachirou’s shot deflecting off a defender onto the crossbar for a corner.

Two minutes later, Ben Mohammed created some space for himself and unleashed a shot that Aly Keita saved.

As the game approached the half-hour mark, Kassim Mdahoma had a free header from a cross by Benjaloud Youssou, but he couldn’t hit the target in the 27th minute with Youn Zahary protesting that he had been pushed off the ball.

There were no more real chances until just before the interval when Coelacanths got a corner. From the resultant set-piece, Zahary’s header from Mchangama’s corner went wide.

The score at the break was goalless.

At the start of the second stanza, Comoros set up an attack which forced Guinea to sit on the edge of the box and deploy a counter-attacking approach while managing the interplay from Ibouroi and Bakari.

Kassim Mdahoma nearly brought the stadium to life with a 30-yard free-kick outside the area, but Syli Nationale shot-stopper Ally Keita punched it to safety.

The Coelacanths finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Bakari crossed to Ben Mohammed, who peeled off his marker to send a powerful shot from the near side.

Guinea felt the urge afterwards and as a response, moved the attack to the last third but still couldn’t crack down the Islanders.

Ibrahim Camara went close to a second a couple of minutes later following a quick combination with Soumah, but the forward went straight at Ahamada.

Guinea had two more chances at the end, but it was not to be for the West Africans.

Midfielder Baissama Sankoh had his opportunity in the 85th minute, but his shot was not good enough to beat Ahamada.

The France born shot-stopper produced one more save with seconds remaining.

Mohammed Yattara had a chance from close range when he put his right leg to the ball, but Ahamada was equal to the task.
