Tanzania have qualified for the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) finals after beating Sudan 2-1 in the reverse final round second leg qualifier played in Khartoum on Friday night.

The Taifa Stars booked the first ticket to Yaoundé on away goal rule as the teams tied 2-2 on aggregate.

Sudan, who came into the match with the advantage having won the first leg played in Dar es Salaam 1-0, started positively and nearly instigated the breakthrough five minutes in when Walid Bekhit sent a shot wide of the mark with only Juma Kaseja to beat.

At the other end, Isaac Adam was put to work in the first ten minutes from Iddi Seleman’s snap-shot following a goalmouth scramble from a corner but he smothered the danger efficiently.

At the midway point of the half, the Falcons found the back of the net though a well taken shot by Amir Kamal from outside the 18-yard-box.

Tanzania came back strongly though, with Miraj Athumani’ flicked header sailing just wide, before Sudan goalie Adam saved well from Nondo.

The pressure continued after the break, with Sudan first clearing Nyoni’s header off the line, before Adam denied second-half substitute Masai’s free-kick.

Two minutes later, poor defensive work from the Falcons handed Taifa Stars an equalizer as Erasto Nyoni sent an in-swinging free-kick in at the near post to make it 1-1.

Sudan looked to score their second in the final 15 minutes, but Bekhit hoofed over the top after poor handling by Saladin.

As the game flew back and forth, Ditram Nchimbi took matters into his own hands in the 80th minute as he fired into the top corner to send Tanzania to Cameroon on goal-difference.
