Kurt Okraku Elected As Ghana Federation President

Kurt Okraku has been voted as the new president of the Ghana Football Federation.

Kurt Okraku has been voted as the new president of the Ghana Football Association.

He won 59 of the 118 votes cast, to beat his rival George Afriyie who received 43 votes in the second round of elections. Nana Yaw Amponsah came in a distant third place with 16 votes.

Okraku now succeeds Kwesi Nyantakyi in a four-year tenure. The former president resigned in June 2018 following damning revelations in an exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The new president is also the chief executive officer of Ghana Premier League club Dreams FC.

Afriyie conceded defeat even though the elections went into third round; “In the interest of football, I concede defeat and I congratulate my brother.”

In the first round, Okraku had polled 44 votes with Afriyie gathering 40 votes while Nana Yaw Amponsah had 27 votes.

Fred Pappoe managed 6 votes while other two contestants Amanda Clinton and George Ankomah bagged no vote, forcing them to drop out of the race.

Okraku is known to have a deep understanding of football matters and is recognised as one of the people to have openly differed with and taken on the former regime on football matters with some success.
