Kenya and KCB Rugby Club fullback Tony Onyango collapsed and died after getting home from training on Tuesday evening, reports said.

The 28-year-old went down in his house around 10 pm local time and was pronounced dead at the hospital around half-an-hour later, the club team manager told reporters.

Team Manager Philip Wamae said Onyango’s death happened at his home in Ngong on the 3rd of March 2020.

“It is with a seismic disturbance that we announce the sudden death of our KCB Rugby player Tony Onyango Opondo. This happened at his home in Ngong on the 3rd of March 2020. We will update on further details. We ask for your prayers during this trying time,” he said.

Onyango has played for Kenya across all representative levels starting with Under-19 in 2010, before getting his first Kenya Simbas call up in April 2012 by Michael Tank Otieno.

He played for Kenya Sevens under Paul Treu in 2015 and was a Kenya Simbas regular.

A Maseno School alumnus, Onyango was part of the KCB team that lifted the domestic title Kenya Cup last season after beating Kabras Sugar RFC 23-15.
