The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has requested its member associations to decide on the fate of their respective suspended 2019-20 league seasons by May 5, 2020.
Football leagues across the continent and the rest of the world, excluding Belarus, were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a communication addressed to General Secretaries of member associations, CAF said it “would appreciate receiving a reply by the 5th of May, 2020, in order to enable us to design a plan for the organization of our interclub competitions be it through competition or annulment.”
The communication further stated that the continental football body is closely monitoring the situation with the stakeholders to know when its interclub competition would resume which would help to determine to what extent it can be flexible with the teams’ engagement for next season.
”Once we determine the date we are able to resume footballing activities, we would advise you when the leagues must be completed and concessions that would be made with regards to names submission, player registration and date next season will commence,” the communication added.
In Liberia, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has concluded meetings with clubs from various divisions to decide the fate of the league.
According to the local football house, some clubs recommended that the season should be cancelled while others recommended that the local football authority continues to observe the health situation in order to arrive at a decision.
