Gaston Sirino: Sundowns Midfielder Fined By PSL For Assault

South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has levelled punishment on Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sarino.

South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has levelled punishment on Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sarino after being found guilty of assaulting SuperSport United players Clayton Daniels and Dean Furman during their MTN8 fixture on September 2019.

According to a preliminary ruling obtained by Ducor Sports from the league managers, Sirino has been fined R75000 of which R25000 is suspended for a period of 24 months.

His employers, Sundowns, who were found guilty of bringing the league into disrepute, will have to pay a fine R200000 of which R150000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that they don’t repeat the similar offence.

Sundowns and Sirino were also ordered to pay for several sittings of the Disciplinary Committee.

During the Disciplinary Committee sittings which were conducted in November, Sirino told the prosecutor that he was stressed, but the medical report produced by the club didn’t mention what type of stress.

The Uruguayan player joined Masandawana midway through the 2017/18 season from Bolivian side, Club Bolivar.

The 29-year-old player has made 43 appearances in the PSL and scored nine goals.

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee (DC) previously found Mamelodi Sundowns and their player Gastón Sirino guilty on several charges. 
  
Mamelodi Sundowns were found guilty of bringing the League in disrepute while Gastón Sirino was found guilty of assaulting two SuperSport United players, Dean Furman and Clayton Daniels.

The DC has ruled that:

  1. Mamelodi Sundowns is ordered to pay a fine R200 000 of which R150 000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence during the period of suspension.
  2. Gastón Sirino is ordered to serve a two-match suspension.

3. Gastón Sirino is ordered to pay a fine of R75 000 of which R25 000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence during the period of suspension.
