APR Declared Rwandan Champions As FERWAFA End Virus-Hit Season

The decision has been necessitated by the continued uncertainly due to the coronavirus, which has ravaged the world, bringing economies and sport to a halt.

APR was top of the standings with 57 points, with dethroned champions Rayon Sport second with seven matches left to play. Heroes and Gichumbi with 16 points and 15 points respectively have been relegated as per table standings.

FERWAFA stated that it used article 33 of its statutes and article 28 of Internal rules and regulations, to declare APR the champions.

As a result, APR will represent Rwanda in the 2020/21 CAF African Champions League, while Rayon Sports takes the Confederation Cup spot.

Down to men’s second division, the play-offs competition will be staged to determine the winner of the season and the two teams which will earn promotion to Rwanda Premier League for 2020/2021 season.

FERWAFA said they will continue monitoring the situation to see when they will fix a date for the playoff matches.

Only teams that were licensed in accordance with FERWAFA Club Licensing Regulations will take part in the play-off competition.
