Cameroon FA Medical Commission Meets To Discuss Football Return

Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) medical team has held a special meeting to discuss options for an eventual resumption of football.

Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) medical team has held a special meeting to discuss options for an eventual resumption of football.

FECAFOOT cancelled all leagues under its jurisdiction in May due to the Covid-19 health crisis but it has now started a consultative process that will present a blueprint to the stakeholders on how football can resume in the safest manner possible to mitigate the effects of the virus.

The meeting was headed by Jean-Marc Ngalle Bonjo, the chair of the FECAFOOT Medical Commission, and involved doctors attached to the federation.

“We are not going to play football in order to make people sick. We have to follow what the government is doing that is to keep Cameroon free of the coronavirus. Our work is guided by the recommendations of FIFA, CAF, WHO and the government for a return to sports activities,” he said.

Ngalle has indicated that the commission will have to work with over 600 professional and amateur clubs in the country implying that there is much work to do.

“If we have only 30 players per team we cannot play with the lives of such people. We are responsible for our actions and we must keep them fit,” he added.

The Government’s Health Committee also met to discuss the pandemic, with their approach to the coronavirus outbreak elevated from contained to delay phase.

FECAFOOT cancelled their domestic league on May 12 because of the pandemic before declaring PWD Bamenda the champions.

Bamenda were leading Coton Sport by a single point when football was suspended in mid-March.

No team was relegated from the top flight bu the top two sides in the second division were promoted to an expanded 20-team league next season.
