Bonface Osano drew a large crowd on Monday to watch him submit his candidacy for the next month’s Football Kenya Federation elections.
The 34-year-old African football journalist is one of four candidates that presented their nomination papers to the FKF Electoral Board at Kandanda House, Nairobi.
Osano arrived to submit his candidacy accompanied by his running mate, former Kenya midfielder Innocent Mutiso.
The duo was eagerly followed as they arrived at Kenyan Football Federation’s offices located at Kasarani Stadium in a convoy of high-end cars.
He spent a few minutes at the offices before receiving his clearance to face off with incumbent Nick Mwendwa in the national polls set for October 17, 2020.
“When we get elected our resolve is to build confidence amongst Kenyan’s…we will be able to access resources to build football from the grassroots”, Osano to reporters.
It will be the third time that FKF will be trying to hold elections and they have already set September 19 for grassroots polls across the 47 counties.
The previous two exercises were nullified by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) stating that the rules of engagement were flouted on both occasions.
‘‘The electoral board should be above board so as to create confidence amongst aspirants,” Osano added.
Apart from Osano, others who were cleared include Gor Mahia chief executive officer Omondi Aduda, former AFC Leopards chairman Dan Mule and Herbert Mwachiro.
Incumbent Nick Mwendwa had submitted his nomination papers earlier while four other aspirants withdrew from the race which they termed as flawed.
