Gwambina FC Home Ground Banned By TPLB

Gwambina FC will have to play their home matches elsewhere after their home ground was banned from hosting Tanzania Premier League matches.

In letter sent to the club obtained by Ducor Sports and signed by Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) chairman Stephen Mnguto stated Gwambina Stadium has been removed from the list of approved stadia in the country.

“The Tanzania Premier League Board has suspended Gwambina Stadium from hosting top-tier matches owing to a bad playing surface which does not mean the standards,” read the letter as translated from Swahili.

“Due to the aforementioned decision, the Board has asked Gwambina FC to choose between CCM Kirumba and Nyamagana Stadiums, both based in Mwanza, as their home ground for the time being.”

Gwambina FC launched their Tanzania Premier League title quest with a 1-0 loss away to Biashara United before earning their point at home on Friday when they were held to a goalless draw by Kagera Sugar.

The state of the pitch denied fans an opportunity to enjoy a match that was highly anticipated and at the same time endangered players owing to the uneven playing surface.

Both goal areas had hilly goal lines between the posts, a big disadvantage to players of both teams who strived to bag maximum points.

Gwambina were promoted to the Tanzanian Mainland Premier League from the First Division League after they beat Pamba FC 1-0 in their final match of the season.
