Zamalek Match Against Raja Casablanca Postponed Due To COVID

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has agreed to postpone Zamalek’s Africa Champions League semi-final second leg clash against Raja Casablanca.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has agreed to postpone Zamalek’s Africa Champions League semi-final second leg clash against Raja Casablanca.

This is to allow several Raja Casablanca players and officials recover after testing positive for coronavirus.

Zamalek were originally scheduled to play Raja Casablanca in Cairo on Saturday, 24 October for the decisive match,  but the Moroccan side on Tuesday requested for postponement of the fixture due to inability to travel to Cairo.

“The Organizing Committee of Inter-club Competitions and Management of Club Licensing System convened a meeting via video-conferencing on the 21st October 2020, where they studied the request of Raja Club Athletic to postpone the semifinal match, Zamalek Sporting Club vs Raja Athletic Club, scheduled on the 24the October in Cairo,” read a letter from the African football governing body sent to both clubs.

Zamalek secured a 1-0 over the 2019/20 Botola champions last Saturday to hold a crucial away goal advantage for the return leg in Cairo this week.

But three days after the game, Raja released a statement indicating 15 positive cases among players and staff, before submitting a request to CAF for the postponement of the second leg match.

The winner of the tie will face either Al Ahly or Wydad Casablanca, who are scheduled to face off on Friday evening at the Cairo International Stadium
