The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Gor Mahia’s Champions League clash against CR Belouizdad has been postponed.
The match, originally fixed for Wednesday, 23 December 2020 in Algiers was postponed at the request of Gor Mahia after reportedly running into issues with logistics ahead of the trip.
The Kenyan Premier League champions have confirmed that CAF has agreed to reschedule the match for Saturday, 26 December 2020.
“We have received communication from CAF notifying us that the game has been rescheduled to Saturday, but we have been told to be in Algeria by Wednesday,” Gor chairman Ambroise Rachier told reporters.
Gor Mahia had requested for the match to be played on a neutral ground, albeit in North Africa, after they failed to secure a commercial flight to Algiers.
“The team will now travel to Doha then we shall fly to Algiers as the airspace will be open for us until after the day of the match,” added Rachier.
“The issue was not tickets but the restricted air travel in Algeria.”
The Sammy Omollo’s coached side are now planning to be in Algeria by Wednesday, meaning the team has to fly out on Tuesday.
“We are determined to get a fair result away because we have no issues now,” Rachier concluded.
Gor have been training at Camp Toyoyo as they look forward to a good result in Algeria then finish off the job at home and hope to qualify for the moneyed group stage.
