CHAN 2020: Niger Held By Libya in Group B Opener

Niger squandered a host of chances, as they drew 0-0 with Libya at Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon  on Sunday afternoon.

The game got off to a slow start, and both sides exchanged efforts from distance, none of which threatened the respective goalkeepers.

Ahmed Abdulsalam came to Mediterranean Knights ‘s rescue in the 20th minute, as he popped up with a fine interception to deny Ibrahim Issa, who was lurking at the far post.

Libya nearly broke the deadlock after the 30-minute mark, but Abdoul Razak epulled off a superb save to deny Dove Wome from the edge of the box.

The Dama Gazelles continued to create more of the chances and Mohammed Makkari squandered his chance in the 35th minute when he volleyed just wide from a tight angle.

Niger had the best chance of the half in the 39th minute when Harouna Amadou rattled the upright with a fine glancing header.

Makkri then squandered a glorious chance shortly after the halftime break, when he placed his effort wide of the upright from six-yards out, after being teed up by Ismael Souley.

Razak had to be at his best in the 62nd minute, as he pulled off a superb save to keep out Muetaz Husayn’s powerful free-kick.

Salah Fakroun came to Libya’ rescue just a minute later, as he coming rushing off his line to deny Amadou from six-yards out.

Libya squandered a chance of their own in the 68th minute when Rabia Alshadi fed a pass for Ibrahem Bodabous, who ended up dragging his effort wide of the mark from close range.

Substitute Adomou Nasser had the chance to put his side ahead with 10 minutes remaining but the Niger striker headed over the crossbar from close range.

Ahmed ensured Libya earned share of the spoils, as he pulled off a stunning one-handed save to keep out Amodou’s powerful volley in the 87th minute.
