Kenyan midfielder Henry Ochieng has joined English Championship side, Watford, on a short-term deal, the club has announced.

The 22-year-old spent the 2019/2020 season with English lower-tier side Wingate & Finchley before joining Irish top-tier side Cork City FC.

He joins the Hornets after a reported successful trial with the club and is expected to link up with their U-23 side.

“Watford FC is pleased to confirm the signing of Under-23 midfielder Henry Ochieng,” the club said as they announced the youngster’s arrival.

Ochieng, whose parents hail from Kendu Bay in Homa Bay County, began his career at West Ham Academy, famously known as The Academy of Football.

He was initially called up by former Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne to the Kenyan national team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone.

That game was however called off by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), leading to his inclusion in the U-23 side coached by Francis Kimanzi.

He appeared as a second-half substitute in Kenya U-23’s 5-0 thrashing of Mauritius in an AFCON U-23 qualifier in 2018.
