Bafana Bafana fans will have to be in suspense a bit longer as the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) will not be able to announce the coach that they have settled for until next week.
SAFA Communications Department had informed reporters that the new coach would be named on Saturday, 24 April 2021, but the gaffer failed to travel due to “due to global Covid-19 travel issues”.
Although the management had not revealed the coach’s nationality, there were some matters with the new incoming coach that needed to be completed.
And now, SAFA has confirmed Bafana will have the new man in charge next week as they have concluded a deal with the incoming national team head coach.
“We have concluded and finalized all the outstanding matters and we will announce the new coach next week,” said SAFA CEO, Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe.
“The two parties (SAFA and new coach) have resolved all matters and what remains now is to officially announce him next week,” added Advocate Motlanthe.
SAFA technical committee interviewed three candidates namely Herve Renard, Hugo Broos and Carlos Queiroz to replace Molefi Nseki.
Various media reports indicate that they settled for Queiroz but it appears he declined SAFA’s offer to replace Ntseki‚ who was sacked on March 31 following the national team’s failure to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Queiroz decision left SAFA scrambling for a viable alternative give that South Africa’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches begins away against Zimbabwe on the weekend of June 5 to 6.
