CAF Bans DR Congo’s National Stadium

Stade de Matyrs will no longer host Confederation of African Football (CAF) matches as it doesn’t meet the CAF standards to do so.

CAF and FIFA banned the DR Congo’s main stadium also, following an inspection visit in March 2020.

In arriving at this decision, the inspectors indicated the state of the pitch, pavilion, dressing rooms were way below the minimum required standards.

According to Democratic Republic of Congo Football Association (FECOFA) president Constant Omari, the move to ban Stade de Matryrs has forced his organization to move the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers out of Kinshasa.

“Only the TP Mazembe Stadium, belonging to a private sector, is eligible for high competition. This is also the reason why the national team, The Leopards will play their qualifying matches for the Qatar 2022 World Cup in Lubumbashi, ”said Omari.

TP Mazambe Stadium, which is also referred to Stade de TP Mazembe, is located in Lubumbashi which is located 2,200kms from Kinshasa.

DR Congo are scheduled to face Tanzania, Benin and Madagascar in Group J of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification matches which commence in June.
