Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane insists their tie with Wydad Casablanca is not over despite their 1-0 win at the Mohammed V Stadium on Saturday.
Samir Nurkovic scored the only goal of the game to give Chiefs an advantage going into the last leg of 2020/2021 African Champions League semi-final at FNB Stadium.
Zwane was elated that they achieved their mission in Morocco but has cautioned his team about underestimating Wydad in such a competition.
“We came here to do the business and we did exactly that. We are happy with the result, but we know it’s not yet over. We have the second leg back home in Johannesburg and we will try and finish it off there,” said Zwane in an interview.
“We’ve done what we came here for, we kept a clean sheet and we wanted a goal or two. The one is okay. They will open up a bit when they come to play us and we will try and punish them. We have another 90 minutes, it will be difficult. We were very disciplined and we hope to keep a clean sheet at home as well.”
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma made some several saves that kept the Amakhosi in the game and also echoed his coach sentiments.
“Everyone gave 100 percent, I’m happy with the result and with the clean sheet. We know it’s not over, it’s only halfway. We just have to keep going and working hard.”
Chiefs win against Wydad was their sixth victory in the 2020/ 2021 CAF Champions League – their most wins in a single CAF Champions League campaign, after winning five games in 1993.
The second leg clash between the two African football giants is set to take place at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Saturday, 26 June.
The aggregate winner will face either Esperance de Tunis or defending champions Al Ahly in this year’s final.
