Tusker To Represent Kenya In 2021/2022 CAF Champions League

Tusker FC will represent Kenya in the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League after crushing Ulinzi Stars 4-1 on Wednesday in Nakuru.

The victory ensured the Brewers topped the Kenyan Premier League standings by June 30, the set mark date by the Football Kenya Federation to pick  the country’s continent premier clubs competition representative.

Goals from Brian Marita, Kevin Okoth and Chris Ochieng ensured that Tusker returns to the continental club competitions after a five-year absence.

Boniface Onyango had given the host an early lead before Brian Birgen scored in his own net to give the brewers an equalizer.

KCB, who were the only challengers for the ticket, won their midweek clash against Nzoia Sugar 2-1 but that was not enough as the still lie second with 46 points, one below table leaders Tusker.

It is the first league crown for head coach Robert Matano in his third season since his return to the brewers replacing Ugandan Sam Timbe.

FKF had announced in May 17 the team on top of the table by the end of June 30 will be handed the ticket to represent the country in the African Champions League.

The directive was issued after CAF had issued a deadline to all affiliated federations to submit the names of their representatives by June 30.

However, CAF extended deadline for the registration of players and clubs to take part in the 2021/22 African Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions to August 15.

Tusker featured last in African Champions League in 2017 where they were bundled out by Mauritius’ AS Port-Louis at the preliminary stage.
