Goals from Robert Mundenyu and Peter Thiong’o earned AFC Leopards a 2-0 win over Bandari in their Betking Premier League encounter at the Thika Municipal Stadium.
Patrick Aussems’ men remain in third spot on the Betking Premier League table, while Casa Mbungo’s charges dropped down to eighth place.
The opening stages of the first half proved to be a dull affair with neither side managing to create any openings.
However, Leopards were gifted the first chance in the 14th minute as a mistake from Brian Wanyama set up Elvis Rupia, but the striker sliced his effort wide of the mark.
Darius Mnyambo tried his luck from distance two minutes later but the Bandari midfielder fired his shot well wide of the target.
Amai Atariza came to the visitors’ rescue in the 27th minute as he put his body on the line to keep the hosts from going ahead.
Brian Odera should have opened the scoring in the 37th minute but the Bandari midfielder fired straight at Ezekiel Owade from close range, after being picked out by Zakayo Keegan.
Meanwhile, Bandari’s striker William Wadri looked isolated upfront and often had no support whenever he was in possession of the ball.
However, took the lead five minutes after the halftime break thanks to a wonderful finish from Mudenyu as the defender tapped in a poorly cleared corner.
Elvis Rupia should have doubled the lead in the 64th minute but the attacker scooped his effort onto the frame of the goal from point-blank range.
Justin Ndikumana came to Bandari ‘s rescue once again in the 69th minute as the Dockers shot-stopper pulled off fine stop to deny Collins Shichenje from distance.
AFC Leopards ‘ number one Owade proved to be the busier of the two goalkeepers, and he was called upon in the 76th minute to brilliantly deny Wadri from distance.
Leopards gained momentum with ten minutes remaining and grabbed a second goal courtesy of a powerful header from substitute Peter Thiong’o after a lay-off from Washington Munene.
Bandari looked to work their way in through the middle of the home side, but Leopards kept calm to ensure a 2-0 win.
