Christine Mboma won Namibia’s first medal in Tokyo Olympics after securing a silver in Tuesday’s 200m final.
Mboma, who was bidding to become the first African athlete to win the short race, came second on a time of 21.81.
Jamaica’s Elaine Thomspon-Herah bagged gold in 21.53, the second-fastest time in history behind only Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 21.34.
Gabby Thomas of USA finished behind Mboma to scoop bronze with a time of 21.87 seconds.
The other Namibian taking part in the race, Beatrice Masilingi, ran a personal best of 22.88 to finish sixth in the race.
Mboma, who just turned 18-year-old recently, broke her world under-20 record for the third time in a span of two days at the Olympic Stadium.
She charged past Ivorian Marie-Josee and Jamaica’s Sherlly Ann before catching up with Gabby Thomas, who earlier this year became the second-fastest woman ever in the 200.
Her victory comes after 25 year-medal drought for Namibia at the Olympic Games as they last picked medals in 1996 Antlanta Olympics where track legend Frank Fredericks won two silver medals.
