All Set For Classy 2021 AFCON Draw In Yaoundé

Preparations are complete for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations draw set to be conducted on Tuesday evening at Yaoundé Conference Centre, in  Yaoundé Cameroon.

On Monday afternoon, workers at the venue were putting up the final touches on a beautiful venue ahead of the draw to pool the 24 participating teams.

Heads of various member federations have already arrived in Yaoundé with the coaches and team managers having come earlier for yesterday’s workshops.

A statement from CAF portal indicates that the draw will be conducted by CAF Competitions Director Samson Adamu and will be assisted by some of African football legends led by Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o and Ivorian Didier Drogba.

Other legends that will be assisting in the draw include Algerian Rabah Madjer, Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan and Cameroonian Gaelle Enganamouit.

Various coaches are looking forward to Tuesday’s draw with each eager to know who they will land in the first expanded edition of the tournament.

Cameroon are placed in Pot 1, while the  2019 Afcon champions, Algeria have been placed in Pot 2.There will be six pots representing the groups will be labeled Groups A to F.

Senegal, Morocco, Nigeria and Tunisia were allocated Pot 3, Pot 4, Pot 5 ad Pot 6 respectively according to their respective latest FIFA rankings.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations was supposed to be hosted by Cameroon between January and February 2021 but was moved to January 2022 and will end in February – a year later than the initial date, after Covid-19 disrupted the global football calendar.
