Central African Republic And Cape Verde Play To Stalemate

Central African Republic and Cape Verde played to a 1-1 draw in their Group C 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Stade de la Reunification in Douala, Cameroon on Wednesday.

Arnaud Tattevin squandered a glorious chance to hand CAR the lead after two minutes, when he blazed over the crossbar from inside the area.

Cape Verde could have gone ahead in the 22nd minute when Steve Furtado played Julios Tavares through on goal, however the winger fired straight at Prince Samolah from six-yards out.

Hénock Damona missed a glorious opening to hand the home side the lead in the 27th minute, as he fired over the crossbar from close range, after being picked out by Ngam Ngam.

Cape Verde eventually broke the deadlock on the 36 minute with Julio Tavares finding the back of the net for the visitors to make it, 1-0.

After an entertaining opening 45 minutes, the score remained 1-0 to the Blue Sharks at the break.

Axel Urie had a chance early in the second half, but his headed attempt went wide of goal.

In the 50th minute Dylan Tavares almost scored for Cape Verde, but his powerful effort was just off target.

Central African Republic leveled matters in the 53rd minute when Tresor Toropite got to the ball and beat the keeper, 1-1.

Robert Lopses had a great chance in the 68th minute, as he ran onto a good cross from Jamiro Monterio, but he couldn’t keep her header down and it flew wide and high.

Five minutes later Peter Guinari tried from long range and forced a great one handed save from the Cape Verde goalkeeper.

Vagner Goncalves had a chance for the Blue Sharks in the 80th minute with a great long range effort, but his attempt was well saved.

Two minutes later Ryan Mendes  had a chance for the winner, but his header went off target.

Delphin Mokonou was presented with another opening after 88th minutes but the forward fired just wide of the mark from close range.

However, the score remained 1-1 at the final whistle, as both sides picked up a point on a rainy evening in Douala.
