Kenya national football head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has been sacked after a disappointing start to their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Kenya registered a goalless draw against Uganda and picked a 1-1 draw against Rwanda in the first two games of their pool, in which only the top team advances to the next stage of qualifying.
“Football Kenya Federation and Harambee Stars Head Coach Jacob “Ghost” Mulee have agreed to terminate the coach’s contract on mutual consent,” FKF said in a statement on Wednesday.
Mulee becomes the latest national coach to lose his job after Charles Akonnor (Ghana), Zdravko Logarusic (Zimbabwe) and Hossam El-Badry (Egypt).
In its statement on Wednesday, FKF said it was already looking at possible candidate to fill the positions left by coach Mulee and his assistant Twahir Muhidin together with goalkeeping coach Haggai Azande.
Mulee who doubles up as a radio presenter was appointed in October 2020 replacing Francis Kimanzi who parted ways with the national team on mutual consent.
He has a lot of coaching experience having coached Harambee Stars to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations finals held in Tunis, Tunisia.
He has also managed several teams in the East African region and worked extensively in Tanzania and Rwanda.
In his first spell in charge of Kenya, the Harambee Stars crashed out early at the 2004 African Cup of Nations finals after winning one and losing two of their group games.
He resigned from the national team coaching position after a disagreement with the Normalization Committee that was running Kenyan football.
