Sierra Leone FA Attempt To Woo Barnet Defender David Sesay

Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) are attempting to cap England-born defender David Sesay ahead of Kenya.

The 22-year-old, who turns for English National League side Barnet, is eligible to play for the Leone Stars as he holds dual-nationality and has not represented Kenya at any level.

Report in the West African country says football chiefs there will be up to the player and others with dual nationality who are eligible to represent Sierra Leone, to decide whether to represent the country.

Football Sierra Leone claims that Leone Stars head coach John Keister is set to include the defender in the next international friendlies ahead of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Born to a Sierra Leonean father and a Kenyan mother, Sesay was previously invited to play for the Harambee Stars came ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament but his passport delayed.

He is a perfect example of the foreign-born player of Sierra Leonean origins that the Leone needs due to his ability able to slot into multiple positions on the pitch.

Sesay was born in Brent, England and turned professional in 2016 while playing for Watford. He joined Barnet three-weeks ago and has so far been impressive.

SLFA has established a simple policy which indicates that talented dual nationals who have the required quality would be informed that they are welcome to play for Sierra Leone if they so choose.
