Percy Tau Nets Brace in Al Ahly Debut

Percy Tau made a dream start to life at Al Ahly as he scored twice on his debut to help the Red Eagles to a 4-0 victory over Ismaily.

The 27-year-old joined Al Ahly from English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a four-year deal in August and was in spectacular form in the Egyptian Premier League opener.

The Bafana Bafana international earned his starting debut having be named in the match-day list alongside another debutant Luis Miquissone.

Al Ahly raced into the lead through a penalty that was easily converted by Tunisian defender Ali Maaloul  after Miquissone was brought down in the area.

By that stage, confidence was flowing through Al Ahly’s veins and they looked likely to score every time their attackers poured forward.

Tau marked his big night with a well-taken goal on the 23rd minute, and two minutes before the half hour mark, the South African scored the brace, this time from an easy tap.

Ten minutes after the restart, Tau riffled the ball into the bottom corner but VAR interjected to rule the strike out for offside.

The striker was substituted on 72nd minute after an impressive performance giving way to Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Kader Rawdan.

Al Ahly were forced to finish with 10 men after Aliou Dieng was dismissed for a professional foul on Ismaily striker Shoukry Naguib in the 74th minute.

Pitso Mosimane’s side took their foot off the gas after going one man down which resulted in a more tepid encounter.

But Ismaily’s attacks were not strong enough to stop the Red Devils as the second-half substitute Rawdan made sure that they place three points deep into the bag.
