Sierra Leone Women’s Coach Abdulai Bah to Remain in Police Custody

Sierra Leone women’s national team head coach Abdulai Bah will remain in police custody for more days pending completion of investigations into allegations against him.

Bah was arrested on Friday over allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation of several women’s national team players.

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer attached to Family Support Unit Sergeant Alhassan Teddy Turay, explained to journalists that police need more time to investigate after three players complained that he sexually harassed them.

“We do detain people beyond 72 hours if the need arises, and we’re extending Bah’s time in police custody because the need has arisen,” said Turay.

“We’re working within the ambit of the law as he’s still helping police with the investigations. I can’t tell for now when we’ll release him or whether or not we’ll charge him to court.”

Bah who was accompanied by some of his famous charges in support was quizzed for a few hours before being driven off to CID headquarters for more interrogations.

Before his arrest, the coach refuted the allegations, insisting that he is clean and will be vindicated at the end of it all.

Three female players reported the gaffer to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), which subsequently suspended him from all football-related activities.
