Uganda and Kenya will lock horns in a crucial 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kampala on Thursday evening.
Kick-off is at 16h00 EAT.
The match is set rekindle the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Kampala when Kenya frustrated their arch-rivals to a barren draw and consequently deny them a chance to continental finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Uganda are currently second in Group E with eight points, two less than leaders Mali who are away to Rwanda Thursday.
The Cranes need to win the match for them to have a chance in making to the final round of the qualification. Heading into their penultimate fixture, Uganda beat Rwanda at home and away in their last time out.
Kenya , after successive defeats to Mali in October, find themselves third on the log with two points and having been mathematically eliminated.
The Harambee Stars are currently third on the log with two points from four matches, six points behind Uganda Cranes.
While a win will put the Ugandans in a pole position ahead of their tricky tie against Mali, Uganda coach Milutin Micho is wary of Harambee Stars threat.
“We need to take every match as it is and we are now focusing on the game against Kenya,” said Micho.
“They will play for pride and ready to spoil the party like they have done before against the Cranes. We are preparing ourselves in the best way possible. We only ask for support from every stakeholder,” the Serbian coach added.
Uganda and Kenya have met in 76 matches, with the Cranes have claimed 30 wins compared to 22 for the Harambee Stars, with 24 games ending in draws.
In the first leg fixture played in September both teams played out a 0-0 draw at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
