Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has appointed a normalization committee to handle the football affairs of the Guinea Football Association (FGF).
Football’s world governing body said it took the decision due to “series of irregularities” that were found during the electoral process of the FGF.
The committee will run FGF’s daily affairs, draft new statutes and organise elections for a new executive committee by the end of June 2022.
“The normalisation committee will consist of a suitable number of members, who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and CAF as soon as possible. All members of the normalisation committee will be subject to an eligibility check to be carried out by the FIFA Review Committee in accordance with the FIFA Governance Regulations,” FIFA said in a statement.
“None of the members of the normalisation committee will be eligible for the positions to be filled during the upcoming elections of the FGF under any circumstances.”
The decision will not affect the Guinea national side who will be playing in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations finals that gets underway in January.
Placed 81st in the FIFA rankings, Guinea have never qualified for a World Cup but are regular participants at the African Nations Cup and will host the continental tournament for the first time in 2023.
It is not the first time that Cameroon has had a FIFA-approved normalization committee one was established in 2016 after a ban from global football.
The football associations of Ivory Coast, Chad and Comoros are also currently being run by FIFA-appointed committees.
FIFA generally steps in when serious issues within national FAs, including internal disputes, undermine the administration of the sport in the country concerned.
