Chris Hughton Appointed New Black Stars Technical Advisor

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed former Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton as the technical advisor of the national team.

The appointment of 63-year-old former coach was with immediate effect following the Executive Council notice that was published on Wednesday on the GFA website.

Hughton will offer leadership to new interim Black Stars manager Otto Addo,and the duo will work together to lead the four-time champions for their 2022 World Cup qualifying play-off against Nigeria in March.

Addo succeeds coach Milovan Rajevac who was shown the door few days after Black Stars’ elimination from recently concluded 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

GFA has also appointed George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as members of the newly constituted technical team.

Addo, who is currently the Assistant Coach of German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, boasts about 13 years of coaching experience.

The 46-year old previously worked as a scout for the Black Stars in 2013 prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana will take on the Super Eagles at the Cape Coast stadium on March 24 before travelling to Nigeria for the 2nd leg at the Abuja Sports stadium on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
