Wydad Casablanca Face Stubborn Sagrada Esperança

Wydad Casablanca host stubborn opponents GD Sagrada Esperança in Casablanca on Friday in a 2021/2022 CAF Champions League Group D opening fixture.

The Moroccan giants will be looking at bagging a win to get their group stage off to a bright start, however, facing the Angolan outfit could prove to be a daunting task.

Fresh from beating Ghanaian side Hearts of Oak in the previous stage, they are setting their sights on beating the best on the continent.

In their two matches against the Phobians in the first stage qualifier, they were held to a 1-1 draw away and registered a 6-1 scoreline in Casablanca.

Wydad coach Walid Rekraki will expect his charges, led by Simon Msuva upfront to be menacing in front of goal.

However, against unpredicted outfit like Esperança, the Moroccan giants  must ensure they convert their chances at home this weekend.

Esperança are out to start their campaign on a high, but will have to be wary of the so called favorites away in Casablanca.

They beat Royal Leopards of Eswatini 3-1 in the previous round at home and went on to lose 1-0 to the fellow Southern Africans in the second leg.

However, the result did not stop them from claiming a spot in the group stages after a 3-2 aggregate win.

In other Group D matches, Zamalek are set to host Angolan side Petro du Luanda at Cairo International Stadium in Egypt on Saturday.

The match is set to get underway at 19:00 GMT and the venue is at Stade Mohamed Stadium in Casablanca.
