A place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be on the line on Tuesday when Algeria and Cameroon square off in the second leg of their 2022 World Cup playoff.
The game is billed for the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida with the kick-off time set at 19h30 GMT.
Algeria are taking a one goal lead into the match, after winning the first leg encounter courtesy of Islam Slimani’s 40th-minute strike in Yaoundé on Friday.
The Fennec Foxes had their job partially done as they have a less difficult task in Blida where they will need a scoreless draw or a win to qualify to the World Cup.
Algeria will be expected to future the previous game line-up that had Manchester City’s forward Riyad Mahrez, Galatasaray’s Sofiane Feghouli and Sporting Club’s Islam Slimani.
The North Africans are the favourites heading into Tuesday night’s fixture, with the Cameroonian side having been unconvincing over the past few years, especially with their performance at the Cup of Nations.
Cameroon will be looking again for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer Vincent Aboubakar, who will partner with the likes of Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Jean Charles Castelleto in quest for a win.
Aboubakar is expected to be at his best and create an impact in the return game and help Cameroon return to the Mundial for the seventh time having missed out in the last edition in Russia in 2018.
Rigobert Song, the Cameroon head coach, will be again miss the services of Napoli midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Young Boys Bern’s Moumi Nicolas Brice Ngamaleu due to injuries.
“Our performance was not bad. We did what had to be done. We remain confident, we need to get a result in the return game. we will try to qualify in Blida,” optimistic Rigobert Song said in post-match conference.
Tuesday’s game will be the ninth official game pitting both Nations, with Cameroon winning four of their eight previous meetings, and the other three games ending in draws.
