Morocco, Tunisia Qualify For World Cup

Morocco and Tunisia have qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after their respective games with DR Congo and Mali.

Morocco booked their place in this year’s World Cup after securing a 4-1 win against DR Congo at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Tuesday night.

A brace from Azzedine Ounahi and a goal each from Tarik Tissoudali and Achraf Hakimi ensured the Atlas Lions qualified to the global showcase for the sixth time.

Ben Malango netted a consolation goal for the Leopards in the 77th minute which was not enough to reduce the huge deficit after they were second best on the night.

Following the result, the Atlas Lions went through with a 5-2 aggregate over the two legs.

Elsewhere, Tunisia needed only a draw having taken control of the tie when they secured a 1-0 win in the first-leg encounter in Mali on Friday with Moussa Sissako scoring an unfortunate own-goal on the day.

The Carthage Eagles avoided defeat and held Mali to a goalless stalemate in the return leg match of the playoff at the Stade Hammadi Agrebi in Tunis.

Following the result, Tunisia have now equaled Nigeria’s record for the second-most World Cup appearances by an African nation with six.

Mali, who are seeking their first ever place at a World Cup, enjoyed much of possession in the opening stages of the match and they had a goal disallowed in the fifth minute of the match.
