Franco-German Coach Keen On Mali Job

Franco-German head coach Gernot Rohr is keen on Mali national team coaching job, Ducor Sports can reveal.

As reported previously, the Mali Football Federation (Femafoot) are closing in on a decision about who should be the person in charge to lead Eagles forward.

The veteran gaffer, who has vast experience coaching African teams, joins former Mali international Eric Chelle, as well as former Eagles coach Djibril Dramé and AS Otoho coach Alou Badra Diallo, as potential candidates to replace Mohamed Magassouba in the national hotseat.

Some high-ranking officials at Femafoot has disclosed that the four coaches mentioned above are the only names on the current shortlist being mulled over by the technical committee.

Rohr is seen as their number one candidate and is currently unemployed after leaving Nigeria national team coaching job in December last year.

The 68-year-old Rohr played at Bayern Munich and Girondins Bordeaux, and then coached Bordeaux when they lost to Bayern in the 1996 Uefa Cup final.

His other past managerial jobs include Niger and Gabon national team. At club level he coached French club Nantes and Nice, Young Boys Berne in Switzerland and the Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel.

Rohr has been close to coaching the national team before and had expressed his desire to do so before the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
