Egypt Begin Search For A New Coach

The Egypt Football Association (EFA)  has started a process of finding a new head coach for its senior national team.

The federation parted ways with Ehab Galal who took over from Carlos Queiroz in April and was tasked to lead the North African nation to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

In his three matches in charge, Egypt narrowly beat Guinea 1-0 in the opening game of the qualifiers, then went down 2-0 to minnows Ethiopia before slumping to a heavy 4-1 defeat against South Korea in a friendly.

“I would like to thank coach Ehab Galal, a very respectful man, who has worked under some tough circumstances. I want to apologise to him, but sometimes the pressure is too much and we saw it would be better for everyone to change,” said EFA board member Hazem Emam.

Galal began his managerial career in 2004 as Sporting Director of Egyptian top division side El Masry.

He made a switch to Kahrabaa Ismailia in 2007 before heading to El Hammam and from 2008 up till 2022, the 54-year-old oversaw Masry, Kafr El Sheikh, Telephonat Beni Suef, Enppi, Zamalek, Al Ahli SC, EL Makkasa, Ismaily and Pyramids.

Ahmed Hossam, who was Galal’s assistant, is expected to take charge in the interim as Egypt Football Federation begins the search for a more experienced coach to take over before next resumption of Afcon qualifiers in September.
