Cameroon Goalkeeper Andre Onana Joins Inter Milan

Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana has signed Italian side Inter Milan on a long-term contract.

The 26-year-old, who has played 30 times for the Indomitable Lions, joins from Dutch giants Ajax ,where he spent seven and a half years.

Onana will fight for starting place alongside Slovenia’s Samir Handanovic, Romania’s Ionut Radu and Italy’s Alex Cordaz, who are on their books.

“I’m very happy to be part of this great Club and this family, which is a great institution. What more can you say about a Club that has done it all? Being here is amazing, and we hope to achieve important objectives in the future,” Onana told the club’s official website.

“Inter are a great Club and have always had good goalkeepers, including now. I’m calm; I’m the one who needs to write my own story. This is a big challenge and I like big challenges. Time will tell if I succeed. But I’m very confident and happy to be here. There’s not much I can say. I just can’t wait to take to the pitch, where you’ll see who the real André is.”

Onana joined Ajax in 2015 from Barcelona having found his way to the famous La Masia academy through a link with the Samuel Eto’o football foundation in Cameroon.

He made his first-team debut for the four-time European champions on 20 August 2016 against Willem II.

The Cameroon international made his senior national team debut in September 2016 in a 2–1 friendly win over Gabon.

Since 2016,  Onana has become his country’s first-choice keeper and played a pivotal role in helping Cameroon qualify for the past three editions of Africa Cup of Nations.
