Hlompho Kekana: Mamelodi Sundowns And South Africa Legend Retires From Playing

Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana has announced his retirement from professional football, ending an amazing 17 years.

The South Africa defensive midfielder played over 400 Premier Soccer League matches that include eight league titles, two Telkom Knockouts, two Nedbank Cup titles, the CAF Super Cup, and of course the CAF Champions League title in 2016.

He spent his ten years of his career at the Mamelodi Sundowns and was the club captain from 2016 to 2021 when he left the club.

Kekana remains the only South African to be nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award on two occasions (in 2016 and 2020).

The former Black Leopards, SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic star expressed his thanks on his social media pages where he indicated that he will concentrate on his pundit job at SABC.
