Al Ahly’s new head coach Marcel Koller attended his first training session on Monday morning after his appointment.

Koller was named as the Al Ahly manager on Friday few days after Ricardo Soares was sacked last month following the club’s  disastrous performance in the Egyptian Premier League.

The Swiss coach met the Red Devils squad for the first time on Monday morning, before getting down to work on the training field.

Among players present in training was midfielder Hussien El Shahat ho participated in the team’s full training normally after he recovered from his injury.

Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Mohamed Sherif, Ahmed Nabil Koka, and Percy Tau were not available as they  continued performing their rehabilitation program.

Koller had been presented to the press few hours ago and wasted no time as he went straight to work at Al Ahly’s training Cairo.

The former Switzerland national team manager had addressed the club fans saying that he is experienced enough to deal challenges at the club adding that his most immediate task is to improve the players’ performance.

“As a coach, I have a great experience. I have been working in this field for a while, and I have a great passion for it. I gained a lot of experience through my work with clubs in Switzerland and Germany, and with the Austrian national team. I love this job and have great enthusiasm for it.” Koller said.

“Coaching Al Ahly is like a new challenge for me, and I want to win it. Working with a team like Al Ahly is a great opportunity for me. I want to win the CAF Champions League title and all the local championships. My goal is to win everything with Al Ahly.

“Winning trophies requires a lot of effort and work, and I am confident that the players will do everything possible to win.

“I always tell the players to show respect, put on a good performance, and focus. Also, they must develop their passing styles and press quickly to recover the ball when they lose it. The team will accomplish this by putting the opponent under constant pressure.”
