2022 CECAFA Kagame Cup Cancelled

The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has cancelled the 2022 Kagame Cup,Ducor Sports can reveal.

Auka Gacheo, the Cecafa Executive Director told reporters that, the regional football body decided to cancel the tournament and focus on 2023.

“It is unfortunate we shall not be able to stage the CECAFA Kagame Cup because of a very busy schedule. We are also trying to see where to fix the CECAFA U-23 Boys Championship,” said Gecheo.

The Senior Challenge Cup is a popular football competition that draws membership from upto 14 Premier League champions from member countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan and Somalia.

The tournament has in the past attracted guest teams such as TP Mazembe, Nyasa Big Bullets and AS Vita. Uganda’s Express FC are the defending champion having clinched the crown courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Nyasa Big Bullets in Dar es Salaam last year.

Meanwhile, Cecafa has confirmed that the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone will take centre stage September 30th to October 14th in Addis Ababa, Ehiopia.

The TotalEnergies CAf U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone will also take place October 22 to November 5th in Khartoum and Al Obeid in Sudan.
