DR Congo’s Bukambu Joins Olympiacos

Democratic Republic of Congo striker Cedric Bukambu has signed for Greek giants Olympiacos on a permanent transfer.

The 31-year-old, who failed to make a remarkable impact at French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille, has now been unveiled by the Legends of Greece.

Bukambu scored only four goals in 21 appearances for Marseille, a club he joined in January. This season the forward managed three games, coming off the bench in all of them.

Born in France, the former France youth international, switched allegiance to DR Congo in 2015 and has since been capped 40 times for the Leopards, scoring 13 goals.

Bukambu started his career at French side Sochaux, where he progressed from the youth ranks prior to being promoted to the first team in 2010.

The first African ever to receive La Liga’s Player of the Month award, Bakambu was one of the top scorers in La Liga, with nine goals, when he quit Villarreal.

He joined the Spanish club in 2015 from Turkish side Bursaspor, where he had scored 21 goals in his sole season with the club.

He switched to Marseille in January 2022 on a free transfer after leaving Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan in November 2021.
