Percy Tau: Al Ahly Striker Back In Squad After Lengthy Injury Absence

South African international Percy Tau is set for a comeback on Sunday as Al Ahly face newly promoted side Aswan in the Egyptian Premier League.

Tau has been out of action since August with a muscle injury that made him miss the last four league games of the previous season.

Al Ahly began their 2022/2023 Egyptian Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win against Ismaily in their opener played on Wednesday.

The Red Eagles new coach Marcel Koller is believed to be keen on Tau’s services despite initial reports that he might have been on the way out of the club during the transfer window.

French Ligue 2 side  Le Havre had reportedly submitted a bid to acquire Tau from Al Ahly last month but both clubs failed to reach an agreement.

Le Harve were hoping to sign the former Mamelodi Sundowns player on a season-long loan deal which would see Al Ahly receive a loan fee.

Tau started light training with the Al Ahly first team at the beginning of October before being declared fit just six days ago.

The 28-year-old star played 30 matches in the Egyptian Premier League and Caf Champions League – scoring eight times, while also providing five assists.

He also grabbed a crucial assist in the Caf Super Cup as Al Ahly defeated Morocco’s Raja Casablanca to clinch the trophy in December last year.
