Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC have parted ways with coach Denis Lavagne after just three games in-charge.
In a press statement published on Azam FC’s website, the Frenchman, who took charge of the team on September 7, was released from his contract after he failed to steer the club to the group stages of the African Confederation Cup.
“The Azam FC board has on Saturday October 22 terminated the contract if head coach Denis Lavagne,” reads the statement.“The decision is in the wider interest of the club and the future if its technical development project.”
The club further revealed that they will be making an announcement on the composition and structure of the new technical bench soon.
“The team will be under assistant coaches Daniel Ongala and Agrey Moris until when new appointment will be made,” the statement added.
“The board takes this opportunity to thank Lavagne for his efforts and the great professionalism he showed while with us. We wish him all the best wherever he goes.”
Lavagne came to Tanzania with an impressive CV having taken Coton Sport of Cameroon to the African Champions League final and also coaching the Indomitable Lions in 2011 and 2012.
He has also worked for Qatar‚ China‚ Egypt‚ Morocco,South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia‚ where he was in charge of Etoile Sahel.
The gaffer began his coaching career in his early 20s as an assistant in the French second division before getting his break in Cameroon‚ where he spent four seasons with Coton Sport in the provincial town of Garoua.
They won four championships and three cups and got to the final of the Champions League in 2008‚ losing to Al Ahly of Egypt in the decider.
