Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has has deflected questions about his Ghana nationality switch despite reports that his nationality switch is close.
The forward, who was born in London to Ghanaian parents, made his England debut in 2019 and has since appeared three times for the Three Lions.
The 21-year-old is, however, still eligible to represent the West African giants, given the new Fifa rule that players can change nations if they have played no more than three competitive games before turning 21.
“ Nothing I would say at the moment on camera, I would love to tell you, but I couldn’t say,” Husdon-Odoi said on Tuesday.
“At the moment it’s more just focusing on the best I can do here. You never know what will happen in the future.
“Obviously the Ghana-England situation has been on my mind for a while. But I think right now it was more of the focus of coming here, really getting myself back into shape, playing a lot of games and just feeling like myself. Right now my mind is just open.”
Hudson-Odoi was loaned to Bayern Leverkusen in August for the rest of the season after missing out on playing time at Chelsea.
Four months ago, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo confirmed that he expected the nationality switches of three players to be concluded and the winger was expected among the three.
If the paper work was completed, the star could play in the World Cup as FIFA rules adds that there must be a three year gap after the player’s final senior appearance before they can register for a new international team.
Leverkusen were third in Germany’s Bundesliga in 2021-22 and are in this season’s Champions League group stages.
The Black Stars of Ghana have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in the Qatar World Cup.
