Young Africans SC chances of qualifying to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup were dealt a major blow following 0-0 draw against Club Africain of Tunisia in the first leg match played at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
The result leaves Yanga with an awkward position as they must recover in time and beat Club African or a score draw away in the return match set to be played in one weeks’ time.
It was a stumbling start to the game by both teams which saw very few chances on goal early on.
The first real effort on goal came in the 14th minute when Fiston Mayele fired a 25-yard shot inches wide of Club Africain goal.
Five minutes later Yanga had another chance on goal, but Bernard Morrison headed a right wing cross narrowly over the target.
The best chance of the opening half fell to Med Ali Omri in the 42nd minute, but the Club Africain man saw his shot from just inside the box superbly saved by the keeper.
The half ended 0-0.
Yanga goalkeeper Djigui Diarra was called into action again five minutes after the break, this time denying Larry Azzouni from range.
In the 5th minute Feisal Salum should really have scored for the home side following a goalmouth scramble, but he struck the crossbar from close range.
The game fell into a bit of a lull after that as both teams squandered possession in the final third and chances on goal were at a minimal.
Khalid Aucho almost stall the win in the dying minutes of the match with a thunderous long range effort, but the Club Africain keeper Mouez Hassan pulled off a wonderful save to see the game end all-square.
